Statement from Emmett Reed, FHCA Executive Director
“The Florida Health Care Association disagrees with the inclusion of nursing centers in House Bill 21, and we look forward to working with legislators to address this as the bill moves through the process. Thanks to the existing Certificate of Need process, Florida has attained a system that strikes the right balance, enabling a greater number of individuals to receive care in their own homes rather than institutional settings. Repealing nursing home Certificate of Need will most certainly result in unmanaged growth, low occupancy rates, inefficiencies in how buildings operate, and a reduction in the value of our state’s nursing centers. All of this could have a negative effect on the tremendous quality strides centers are making. We will continue to work with legislators to help them understand the need to remove nursing centers from House Bill 21 and maintain our Certificate of Need process.”
