Stetson University faculty, staff and students and the community will have an opportunity to learn about President Trump’s leadership style and effectiveness during a lecture by Stetson alumnus George C. Edwards III, Ph.D., University Distinguished Professor Emeritus of political science and Jordan Chair in presidential studies at Texas A&M University. The event is free and open to the public.
Edwards received his Bachelor of Arts in political science from Stetson in 1969 and is a leading scholar of the presidency. He will be discussing how President Trump has used his business skills to negotiate with Congress and gain public support for himself and his policies while in the White House during his “Is President Trump an Effective Leader?” presentation on Wednesday, March 20, 6 p.m., in the Stetson Room, upstairs in the Carlton Union Building, 131 E. Minnesota Ave., DeLand, 32723.
Edwards has served as the founder and director of The Center for Presidential Studies at Texas A&M University and as president of the American Political Science Association’s presidency research section. Edwards also has authored or edited 26 books on American politics and public policy. He is the editor of Wiley Online Library’s Presidential Studies Quarterly and general editor of Oxford University Press’ Oxford Handbook of the American Presidency.
Edwards’ expertise and extensive background on the American presidency will provide attendees with a wealth of information during his lecture.
“Dr. Edwards is a preeminent scholar of the American presidency and has written extensively on presidential leadership,” said David Hill, Ph.D., professor and chair of political science at Stetson University. “He is a Stetson political science alumnus and a longtime friend of the department and the university. We are thrilled that he is returning home to provide a timely talk to both Stetson and the local community.”
