FOR WEEK OF MARCH 17, 2019
This weekly report is prepared by Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to inform the public about upcoming road work in Southwest Florida. Below are the work schedule and lane closure locations for major state road projects.
Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

HARDEE COUNTY
US 17 from north of 3rd Street East to the RV Park Entrance in Zolfo Springs: Construction project: Watch for workers close to the road and trucks entering and leaving the roadway as crews continue work on sidewalk and curb. Pedestrian detours will be in place on the east side of the roadway. This project includes milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, curb and gutter, signing and pavement marking and signalization. The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida LLC. Expected completion is Fall 2019.
SR 636 (Main Street) between southbound US 17 and northbound US 17: Permit project: Crews are repairing the Wauchula State Bank building. The eastbound lane on SR 636 will be closed beginning Monday, March 18 until Monday, April 15. Please use the detour: southbound US 17 traffic will continue to Orange Street or Bay Street to access northbound US 17, then continue to SR 636 intersection to travel east.
SR 64 from Manatee County Line to West Main Street in Wauchula: Construction project: Watch for daytime lane closures with flaggers directing traffic as crews place sod, install pipe and drainage structures and continue paving. Use caution and be prepared to stop. This project includes milling and resurfacing, shoulder work, drainage improvements, signing and pavement marking. The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida LLC. Expected completion is Fall 2019.
HIGHLANDS COUNTY
US 98 from Associates Drive to Lorida: Maintenance contracts project: Crews will be removing and repairing drainage culverts along the corridor. Motorists should expect intermittent east and westbound shoulder closures on US 98 Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please use caution and watch for crews working close to the roadway.
US 98 from Garden Terrace to Madrid in Spring Lake: Utility permit project: Crews are constructing a new treatment plant including a new force main parallel to US 98. Watch for workers close to the roadway with shoulder closures. Watch for trucks and equipment entering and leaving the roadway.
US 27 from West Townsend Street to Batts Street and on SR 64 from US 27 to Self Avenue: Construction project: Crews are replacing existing roadway with concrete pavement on US 27 southbound from West Pleasant Street to Paulk Street, US 27 northbound from Dyal Street to West Hill Street, and on SR 64 from Self Avenue to US 27. The contractor is also milling and resurfacing the existing roadway on US 27 from West Townsend Street to Batts Street and on SR 64 from Collier Avenue to Self Avenue, installing curb and gutter, installing traffic separators, sidewalks, traffic signals, street lights, and signing and pavement markers. A single continuous lane closure on US 27 will be in place during intersection construction.
- On SR 64 both east bound and west bound, traffic has been switched to the north side of the road onto the newly constructed travel lanes.
- On US 27 south bound, traffic has been switched to the right onto the newly constructed concrete travel lanes. US 27 north bound traffic should follow detour signage to access businesses on the west side of US 27.
- Motorists should expect US 27 southbound and northbound lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Motorists should expect east bound and west bound intermittent lane closures on SR 64 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Please follow flagger directions and use caution in this area.
- US 27 traffic patterns are changing south of the US 27 intersection with SR 64 (Main Street) on Monday, March 18. The median opening at Camphor Street will be closed. South bound US 27 detour is to Bell Street and then Anoka Avenue. North bound detour is to SR 64 and then to South Hart Avenue. The north bound left turn to SR 64 is shifting.
Additional lane closures, single-lane flagging operations, and temporary lane shifts will occur during nighttime/overnight hours on US 27 and SR 64. The contractor is Concrete Services, LLC. Estimated project completion date is early 2020.
US 27 at Lakeview Drive: Construction project: Crews are replacing the existing diagonal span wire traffic control signal with a new four-pole span wire traffic control system. Additional improvements include installing new light poles at the intersection of US 27 and Lakeview Drive. Single nighttime lane closures on US 27 will be required during construction. Please use caution in this area and watch for workers in the construction zone. Estimated project completion is summer 2019. The contractor is Carr Construction.
SR 70 from US 27 to CR 721: Maintenance project: Crews will perform weed control and tree trimming along the guardrail in this area. Motorists should use caution and expect intermittent lane closures eastbound and westbound from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
SR 70 near the DeSoto County line: Maintenance permit project: Crews will be installing utility poles at the back of the right-of-way. Motorists should use caution and watch for crews working on SR 70 from the DeSoto County line to US 27.
SR 66 from US 27 to CR 635: Maintenance project: Crews will be cleaning ditches along SR 66 from US 27 to CR 635. Motorists should expect intermittent east and westbound lane closures on SR 66 Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please use caution and watch for crews working close to the roadway.
SR 66 at Orange Blossom Boulevard & SR 66 at Payne Road: Construction Project: Watch for daytime lane closures as crews construct turn lanes. This project consists of widening, base work, milling and resurfacing, drainage, and signing and pavement markings. The contractor is Lynch Paving and Construction Co. Inc. Expected completion is spring 2019.
MANATEE COUNTY
I-275 at the Sunshine Skyway Rest Areas in Manatee and Pinellas Counties: Construction project:Improvements include constructing new rest areas and new parking lots with LED lighting, seawall repairs and extending the seawall at the Manatee County rest area to accommodate a new picnic pavilion. The Pinellas County Skyway Rest Area is closed for renovations. During this time, motorists will be directed to the Manatee County Skyway Rest Area. The closure is expected to last until spring 2019. The fishing piers will remain open during the closure. Construction is ongoing on the new rest area site and the seawall on the Manatee side, west of I-275. Expected completion of both rest areas is spring 2020. David Nelson Construction Company is the contractor.
I-275 Southbound Ramp to I-75 Northbound (Exit 228): Construction project: Crews are replacing the concrete bridge deck on the southbound I-275 ramp to northbound I-75. The I-275 southbound ramp to northbound I-75 is closed for approximately ten (10) months. Traffic is being detoured north on US 41/S Tamiami Trail to SR 674/E College Avenue in Hillsborough County. A temporary traffic signal has been installed on US 41 at the southbound I-275 exit. Periodic nighttime/overnight I-75 northbound/southbound and I-275 southbound lane closures beneath I-275 will occur during construction. There will be nighttime/overnight southbound lane closures on I-75 the week of Sunday, March 17. Use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern. Expected completion is summer 2019. Cone & Graham, Inc. is the contractor.
I-75 at SR 70 Interchange (Exit 217): Construction project: This week, crews will work on the ramps, retaining walls, drainage improvements, constructing noise walls behind the Creekside community, and working on the bridges over SR 70 and the Braden River. Crews will also be clearing vegetation behind the Tara Preserve community for upcoming noise wall construction.
- Motorists should expect lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8.45 p.m. to 6 a.m. (northbound) or 8.00 p.m. to 5 a.m. (southbound) through the duration of the construction.
- Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 70 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
- Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 70 through the duration of the construction.
- Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.
Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is late 2021. The contractor is Sacyr Construction USA, LLC.
I-75 at SR 64/Manatee Avenue Interchange (Exit 220): Construction project: This week, crews are currently paving and striping SR 64, installing sod, performing ramp bridge work, and completing drainage work.
- Motorists are advised that on Monday, March 18th, Tuesday, March 19th, and Wednesday, March 20th, during the overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., the SR 64 westbound ramp to I-75 southbound will be closed, weather permitting. Motorists are advised to make a U-turn at 64th Street Ct E to use the southbound on-ramp.
- Motorists are advised that one lane closure in each direction on SR 64 may occur during the overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. throughout the duration of the project.
- Motorists are advised that one lane closure in each direction on I-75 may occur during the overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. throughout the duration of the project.
This project reconstructs the interchange, widens interchange ramps and SR 64, and installs sidewalks and bicycle lanes on SR 64. Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Drivers should use caution while traveling in this area. Estimated completion is late 2019. The contractor is Prince Contracting LLC.
I-75 at the University Parkway Interchange (Exit 213): Construction project: Crews are installing landscaping and irrigation systems at the I-75 and University Parkway interchange. Lane closures on I-75, if needed, will occur between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Lane closures on University Parkway, if needed, will occur between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Estimated completion is spring 2019. The contractor is Frankie Valdez Company, Inc.
Business US 41 (9th Street W) at the Green Bridge; at 3rd Avenue W, and from 3rd Avenue W to SR 64 (Manatee Avenue): Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-use path; constructing sidewalk; improving drainage; constructing turn lanes, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures on Business US 41 (9th Street W) from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews are working. Estimated completion is spring 2019. The contractor is Gosalia Concrete Constructors, Inc.
US 41 from 301 Boulevard to 21st Avenue: Construction project: Crews are installing concrete traffic separators/directional turn-lanes within the median, resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (not within 600 feet of a signalized intersection). The northbound outside lane will be closed from 32nd Avenue to 30th Avenue for approximately two weeks while crews complete drainage work. Expected completion is summer 2019. Blacktip Services Incorporated is the contractor.
SR 789/Gulf Drive from SR 64 (Manatee Avenue) to SR 684 (Cortez Road): Maintenance permit project: Manatee County is installing new force mains and water mains. For additional information about the project, please visit the project website at amipipereplacement.com.
SR 70 (15th Street E) at 9th Avenue E: Construction project: Crews are constructing a roundabout; installing highway lighting and landscaping; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and resurfacing the roadway. The intersection of SR 70 (15th Street E) and 9th Avenue E is closed during construction. Please use 13th Avenue E and 7th Avenue E as alternate routes during this time. A temporary traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of SR 70 (15th Street E) and 13th Avenue E while the detour is in effect. Watson Civil Construction, Inc., is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019.
SR 64 at Rye Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-lane roundabout; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage, and installing new highway lighting and landscaping. A traffic switch has been implemented shifting traffic to the current westbound lanes using temporary crossovers. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project limits. Rye Road will remain accessible during this time. The speed limit on State Road 64 will be reduced to 45 mph. IBT Construction is the contractor. Expected completion is late 2019.
OKEECHOBEE COUNTY
US 441 south from Park Street (SR 70) to SW 32nd Street: Maintenance permit project: Crews are repairing sidewalks on the southbound side of South Parrott Avenue. Watch for trucks entering and exiting the site.
US 441 from south of NE 304 Street to the Osceola County Line: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway at US 441between NE 304 Street and the Osceola County line. The contractor will also replace the drainage pipe at US 441 and NW 358 Boulevard, install signage and pavement markings and improve the road shoulders. Watch for crews and equipment working close to the road. Drivers should expect lane closures on US 441 throughout the project. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone in a single lane. Please observe posted speed limits and drive with caution in the construction zone. The contractor is Lynch Paving & Construction Company. Estimated completion is late spring 2019.
- Crews are resurfacing and placing temporary and permanent striping on US 441. Motorists should expect single lane closures from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the southbound and northbound lanes of US 441 between the Osceola county line and south of 304 Street.
US 441 SE between canal 59 and SE 66th Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a new pumping station including a new driveway connection to US 441 SE. Watch for workers close to the roadway with shoulder closures. Watch for trucks and equipment entering and leaving the roadway.
US 441 (SR 15) from south of NE 98 Street to north of NE 102 Street: Construction project: Crews are adding a northbound left turn lane at NE 102nd Street and widening and repaving US 441 from south of NE 98 Street to north of NE 102 Street. The contractor will also improve the drainage and install signage and pavement markings. Watch for crews and equipment working close to the road. Drivers should expect lane closures on US 441 throughout the project. Please observe posted speed limits and drive with caution in the construction zone. The contractor is American Lighting and Signalization, LLC. Estimated completion is summer 2019.
SR 710 from west of SE 67th Way to west of SE 48th Street: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway at SR 710 from west of SE 67 Way to west of SE 48 Street. Additional improvements include shoulder treatment, drainage improvements and signing and pavement marking. Lane closures on SR 710 will be required during construction. Please follow flagger directions and watch for workers in the construction zone. Estimated project completion is spring 2019. The contractor is Lynch Paving & Construction Company.
SR 710 from SR 70 to SE 40th Ave: Utility permit project: Utility work will be conducted in the westbound side of SR 710. Please use caution in these areas and watch for crews working close to the roadway.
POLK COUNTY
Ewell Road from east of Irby Lane to Old Highway 37: Construction project: Expect daytime and nighttime/overnight lane closures with flaggers directing traffic throughout the project Monday, March 11 through Saturday, March 16. Crews continue reconstructing driveway connections, widening, installing drainage, building retaining wall, placing curb and gutter, paving and connecting signals.
Crews plan to pave Ewell Road near the Lunn Road intersections during the day beginning, Monday, March 18. The new signals at both Lunn Road intersections are scheduled to be activated in flash mode on Friday, March 15, and will remain in flash for up to 14-days to give motorists time to adjust to the new signals.
This project includes replacing the bridge over Poley Creek, adding traffic signals and turn lanes at both Lunn Road intersections, resurfacing and upgrading signal equipment at Old Highway 37, drainage improvements, and milling and resurfacing in various locations. The contractor is SEMA Construction. Expected completion is early 2019.
US 98 just north of Princeton Manor Lane: Maintenance permit project: Watch for northbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. while crews add a new turn lane and driveway.
US 98 near South Crystal Lake Drive: Maintenance permit project: Watch for nighttime/overnight southbound lane closures at the entrance to Grove Park Shopping Plaza from 7:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews remove and replace curb and gutters.
US 98 at the outdoor recreation area in Fort Meade: Maintenance permit project: Watch for daytime lane closures with flaggers directing traffic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., while crews construct a new driveway entrance. Use caution and be prepared to stop.
US 92/SR 546 Memorial Boulevard from Wabash to Gary Road: Construction project: Watch for nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights as crews make concrete pavement repairs from Wabash Avenue to Gary Road. Use caution and be prepared to merge. This project includes concrete pavement and sidewalk repairs, intersection modifications and resurfacing at the Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue intersection, upgraded street lighting, median modifications for safety and installation of four High Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) signals. Florida Safety Contractors is the contractor. Expected completion is early 2020.
US 27 at Hunt Brothers Road: Maintenance permit project: Watch for northbound daytime lane closures through June 2019 as crews construct a new turn lane, driveway and signal. Use caution and be prepared to merge.
US 17 south of Lunn Road in Fort Meade: Maintenance permit project: Watch for daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. while crews construct a new driveway entrance. Use caution and be prepared to merge.
SR 544 (Havendale Boulevard) from US 92 in Auburndale to US 17 in Winter Haven: Maintenance contracts project: Watch for intermittent shoulder and lane closures with workers close to the road and trucks entering and leaving the roadway, as crews repair sidewalks, driveways and trip hazards. Use caution and be prepared to merge. The contractor is Evans Contracting Services.
SR 544 (Lucerne Park Road) from Conine Road to Avenue Y: Maintenance permit project: Watch for lane closures with flaggers directing traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as crews make a new drainage connection and build a new right turn lane. Use caution and be prepared to merge.
SR 542 from 1st Street to Buckeye Loop Road: Construction project: Watch for nighttime/overnight traffic shifts and lane closures with flaggers directing traffic from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., between 14th Street SE/Lake Elbert Drive and Edgewood Drive. The closures and shifts are necessary while crews work on utilities. Use caution, watch for changes in the traffic pattern and be prepared to stop.
Traffic remains shifted slightly south onto temporary pavement between Avenue A and 9th Street as crews work on the north side of the roadway. Use caution entering and exiting driveways as motorists get used to the new traffic pattern. Pedestrian detours remain in place throughout the project for pedestrian safety. Please use designated walkways to avoid construction.
This project includes widening and adding a center turn lane, sidewalk and bike lanes; upgrading existing signal equipment; placing two mid-block crosswalks; and installing new water and sewer lines. Watson Civil Construction, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is fall 2020.
SR 37 (North Church Avenue) south of SR 60 (East Canal Street) in Mulberry: CSX Railroad project: Crews will close the southbound lanes of SR 37 at the railroad tracks just south of State Road 60 in Mulberry beginning 8:30 a.m. Monday, March 18, and lasting through Tuesday evening, March 19, 2019.
Detour signs will direct southbound motorist on SR 37 left (east) onto SR 60, right (south) onto Bonnie Mine Road, and then right (west) onto Pinecrest Road leading back to SR 37. Motorists traveling eastbound and westbound on SR 60 will be directed along the same detour starting at Bonnie Mine Road.
Northbound lanes of SR 37 will remain open.
Motorists are reminded to use caution when traveling in the area, watch for workers and equipment close to the road, and add extra time in their schedule to reach their destination.
SR 60 from Prairie Mine Road/Diesel Road to Crown Avenue: Construction project: Watch for workers close to the road and pedestrian detours as crews install signs and begin sidewalk work. The improvements on this project include adding street lighting and sidewalk at three intersections on SR 60 including Prairie Mine Road/Diesel Road, SR 37 (Church Street), and Crown Avenue/Agricola Road. The contractor is Highway Safety Devices. Expected completion is fall 2020.
SR 60 from East Van Fleet Drive to West Lake Wales Road: Maintenance contracts project: Watch for lane closures with workers close to the road and trucks entering and leaving the roadway, as crews refresh striping and replace reflective pavement markings. Use caution and be prepared to merge.
SR 60 from Myrtle Avenue to Dude Ranch Road: Construction project: Watch for daytime lane and shoulder closures as crews work on turn lanes. Use caution and be prepared to merge. This project includes milling and resurfacing, widening, shoulder work, drainage improvements, guardrail, signing and pavement marking. The contractor is The Lakeland Paving Company. Expected completion is fall 2019.
SR 37 at Poppell Drive: Maintenance permit project: Watch for northbound nighttime/overnight lane closures as crews reconstruct curb and driveway through March. Use caution and be prepared to merge.
SR 37 from Cresap Street to north of West 3rd Street: Construction project: Watch for nighttime/overnight lane closures and workers close to the road as crews continue installing pull boxes, signs and equipment related to the ITS. This project includes design and installation of an intelligent transportation system (ITS) to provide a rail bypass system in the City of Lakeland. Florida Safety Contractors is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019.
SARASOTA COUNTY
I-75 at the University Parkway Interchange (Exit 213): Construction project: Crews are installing landscaping and irrigation systems at the I-75 and University Parkway interchange. Lane closures on I-75, if needed, will occur between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Lane closures on University Parkway, if needed, will occur between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Estimated completion is spring 2019. The contractor is Frankie Valdez Company, Inc.
US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are widening US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard to a six-lane highway; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk, and installing highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. when crews are resurfacing the roadway. Expect periodic driveway closures along the northbound lanes while crews are installing drainage systems. Russell Engineering, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019.
US 41 Roundabouts at 10th Street and 14th Street, Sarasota: Construction project: Crews continue work within the right-of-way, medians and driveways.
- Crews are expected to work Saturday. Expect construction equipment and noise at 10th Street and 14th Street. Most of the work is expected to occur at 10th Street and along US 41 from 10th Street to 14th Street on the west side.
- Temporary single lane closures may occur between 9th Street and 15th Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. if nighttime activities are scheduled.
- Installation of roadway base is expected on the west side of US 41. Expect noise from heavy machinery, dust and dump trucks moving in and out of traffic. Contractor will be compacting the base with vibrating rollers. Expect heavy equipment, concrete and dump trucks and vibrations due to compaction; the vibrations will be felt and noticeable in the vicinity. This operation is expected for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.
- Curb installation is expected on the west side of US 41 from 14th Street to the boat ramp. Expect heavy equipment and concrete trucks going in and out of traffic.
- Sidewalk installation at 14th Street is expected on the NE and NW corner of the intersection.
- Work on the permanent driveway for Centennial Park boat ramp off US 41. Driveway will always be accessible, but expect restricted areas while crews are working. Please pay close attention to flaggers and barricades in the area.
- Installation of water main at the southwest corner of 10th Street and US 41. Expect construction vehicles with material crossing 10th Street throughout the day.
- Crews will be working in the green zone of the Municipal Auditorium parking lot, use caution and watch for heavy equipment operating in the parking lot at the entrance from US 41.
- Crews are expected to work on the box culvert at 10th Street. Pumps will be running 24/7 bypassing the box culvert into the bay.
- Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall will be blocking off the concrete area between 10th Street and boat ramps for semi-trailers parking. This area will not be accessible to general public until the end of March.
- Drainage structure and pipe installation along the west side of US 41 at the SW corner of 10th Street. Expect heavy equipment and trucks moving in and out of the travel lanes and parking lot for the Municipal Auditorium. Motorists are urged to use caution in the area. Expect equipment crossing 10th Street at the intersection.
- Preparation for sidewalks and driveways and road base at the northeast corner of 14th Street and US 41 intersection. Expect heavy equipment, concrete and dump trucks and vibrations due to compaction. Pedestrian paths may also be rearranged to accommodate work in this area.
- Centennial Park Boat Ramp driveway on 10th Street will be closed. Motorists can access the boat ramp via the US 41 entrance. Northbound left turn lane from US 41 into the boat ramp is available.
- Pedestrian paths have been reconfigured around the work zone, please use designated sidewalks and cross walks. No pedestrian access on the west side of US 41 beyond Centennial Park, pedestrians are advised to use the sidewalk on the east side of US 41. Impacts to pedestrian access south of the Centennial Park on the west side of US 41 is expected while the contractor is performing excavation in the area.
- The traffic pattern will be limited to right turn in/out for 11th, 12th and 13th Street. Traveling southbound and northbound direction left turns are not permitted at 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets. Motorists are advised to follow the posted signs.
- Temporary detour route in effect. Use Cocoanut Avenue as alternate route to access 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Street. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route and seek an alternate route while traveling in this area.
- Activities are subject to change due to adverse weather conditions and other schedule unforeseen problems. Other lane closures not yet scheduled may occur which do not appear on this update.
Speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Speeding fines are doubled in the construction area when workers are present.
Improvements being made as part of this project consist of reconstructing the signalized intersections and replacing them with roundabouts, enhancing connectivity, circulation and safety. US 41 will be widened between the two intersections and will include bike lanes as well as dedicated turn lanes, a 10-foot sidewalk along the west side, and a 6-foot sidewalk along the east side. Other improvements include raised islands for pedestrian refuge at the intersections of US 41 at 10th Street and 14th Street, pedestrian signals, LED street lights, landscaping, and City of Sarasota utility and underground drainage structure replacements. Expected completion is spring 2020. The contractor is IBT Construction LLC.
US 41 from Hospital Road to River Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing new turn-lanes, driveway connections, and working in the medians. Expect intermittent north and southbound daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, March 29. Use caution and expect possible delays.
US 41 from McIntosh Road to Beneva Road: Construction project: Crews are constructing sidewalk and bicycle lanes, improving drainage, reconstructing the US 41 southbound bridge over Catfish Creek south of Central Sarasota Parkway, installing highway lighting, upgrading signals, and installing new signing and pavement markings.
- Northbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
- Southbound nighttime/overnight lane closures may occur between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 a.m.
- The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph within the construction zone.
Motorists should use caution and obey the posted speed limit. Expected completion is fall 2019. The contractor is Morrison-Cobalt JV.
US 41 from Tuscola Boulevard to Ortiz Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are constructing a multi-use path; installing bus pads and shelters; improving drainage; constructing/replacing sidewalk; installing guardrail and highway lighting, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Daytime lane closures between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. are possible. Lane closures within 600 feet of signalized intersections are not permitted between 5:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019.
US 41 from Waldemere Street to Arlington Street: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a driveway. Expect nighttime/overnight southbound outside lane closures from 8 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. each morning through Friday, March 22. Use caution and expect possible delays.
