Attorney General Moody Swears In 2019 Florida Commission on the Status of Women Officers

Attorney General Ashley Moody today swore in the 2019 officers of the Florida Commission on the Status of Women. The swearing-in ceremony took place in Florida’s Historic Capitol. The Commission is a non-partisan body with a focus on raising awareness and celebrating the contributions and successes of all Floridians, along with providing a collaborative platform for those seeking information on issues that affect Florida women, girls and their families.

Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “I am honored to be a part of the swearing-in ceremony installing the 2019 officers of the Florida Commission on the Status of Women. These leaders have served their communities and the state of Florida selflessly and touched countless lives. I know their continued service through the Commission will benefit girls, women and our entire state.”

The 2019 Florida Commission on the Status of Women are:

  • Lady Dhyana Ziegler DCJ, Ph.D., Tallahassee—Chair;
  • Rita B. Craig, Palm Beach Gardens—Vice Chair;
  • Nancy C. Acevedo, Winter Springs—Secretary;
  • Karin Hoffman, Lighthouse Point—Treasurer;
  • Maruchi Azorin, Tampa—Member at Large; and
  • Elena Guardiola Spottswood, Key West—Member at Large.

FCSW Executive Director Kelly S. Sciba said, “We welcome these new officers, who make up our 2019 executive committee. Each brings valuable perspectives from the areas of education, business, and public service, as well as a commitment to our mission of improving the well-being of Florida women and girls—and by extension, all Floridians.”

Commissioner Lady Dhyana Ziegler said, “I’m pleased and honored to have been selected as Chair of this dynamic group of Florida women who care deeply about improving the lives of women and girls. Throughout our 28-year history, the Florida Commission on the Status of Women has been an agent of positive change, bringing the voice, needs and conditions of women to the forefront. With the energy and skills of our Commissioners, we’ll continue to capitalize on the momentum to advance the opportunities for women and girls in our state.”

The Florida Commission on the Status of Women is a nonpartisan, statutorily-created board of 22-member commissioners that work to collaborate with, educate and celebrate Florida women and girls. The Commission does so through annual events and programs including the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame. The Commission acts as a resource for lawmakers, businesses, and residents, so they have a better understanding of the important issues facing women, and by extension all Floridians.
