FDLE agents arrested Kyle Hudson, 38, for organized scheme to defraud, official misconduct and money laundering. Hudson is the Clerk of Court in Holmes County.
The investigation began in January after an annual audit showed a significant increase in travel expenses by Hudson starting in late 2017. Upon review, auditors became concerned some of the expenses could be fraudulent.
The investigation shows Hudson submitted travel vouchers for several conferences, Clerk of Court Operations Corporation meetings and canvassing board meetings. FDLE agents found that Hudson either did not attend the meetings or that the meetings never happened. Hudson created fraudulent hotel receipts and meeting agendas, submitting them for reimbursement. In all, Hudson defrauded taxpayers of more than $6,000.
Hudson was arrested last night by FDLE agents in the Panama City Field Office and booked into Holmes County Jail. He is being held on $7,500 bond. This case will be prosecuted by Office of the State Attorney, 14th Judicial Circuit.
