Steering Committee Meeting April 23, 2019

FDOT will be holding the final steering committee meeting of the Barrier Islands Traffic Study at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at the CrossPointe Fellowship Church at 8605 Gulf Drive, Holmes Beach, Florida, 34217. The team is excited to be heading into Phase III of the Traffic Study.

Phase I involved reviewing prior studies for implementable ideas and Phase II looked at operational improvements. Phase I and Phase II have been finished and the recommendations finalized. Phase III will be looking more to the future – identifying mid to long term solutions.

The team believes the future focus should be on moving people, not solely on moving cars. To help accomplish this, the steering committee will be focusing on what the Vision for the Barrier Islands is. The goal of the FDOT team is to use this Vision to help guide suggestions and projects towards its realization. What does the community want to look like in the future?

FDOT and Stantec have included the suggestions made by the steering committee to ensure that the Island’s suggestions were incorporated and addressed.  Phase III Is scheduled to end in Fall 2019. The final Public Meeting is expected to be held in early 2020. This date will ensure that both full time and seasonal residents will have the opportunity to attend the meeting and participate.

Persons who require special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or people who require translation services (free of charge) should contact FDOT Project Manager Bessie Reina, by phone at (863)-519-2656 or by email at [email protected] at least seven (7) days prior to the meeting.

If you are hearing or speech impaired, please contact the Florida Department of Transportation using the Florida Relay Service, 1 (800) 955-8771 (TDD) or 1 (800) 955-8770 (Voice).
