The Florida House of Representatives today passed CS/CS/CS/HB 821 by Representative Cary Pigman (R-Sebring), related to Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) autonomous practice.
The Florida Association of Nurse Anesthetists (FANA) released the following statement regarding the passage of the bill.
“We applaud Speaker Oliva for his leadership and for making healthcare reform one of his top priorities. Like Speaker Oliva, we believe healthcare should offer more choices, more practitioners, more access and more quality. We stand ready to be part of the solution. Patients’ interests are best served when many different types of qualified professionals are collaboratively working together.
“We are grateful to the Florida House for its tremendous support in passing HB 821 that will modernize Florida’s laws to allow highly-qualified APRNs, including Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, to practice to the full extent of their education and training without physician supervision and protocols.
“We especially thank Representative Cary Pigman for his leadership on this important issue that recognizes the essential role APRNs play in Florida’s health care system.
“We urge the Florida Senate to follow Senator Jeff Brandes’ lead in supporting this very important piece of legislation.”
