Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis joined Florida lawmakers and advocates at the State Affairs Committee meeting today to advocate for cancer benefits for Florida’s firefighters.
CFO and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis said, “Cancer rates among our firefighters are alarming and now is the time to step up and pass needed legislation to protect these heroic men and women. Our firefighters made a pledge to protect our communities and they deserve the same protection. Forty-five states currently offer a cancer benefit for firefighters and it is time we add Florida to that list.
“From day one, I have been committed to securing cancer coverage for firefighters. Together, we can support today’s firefighters in their battle against cancer and also protect future generations of first responders from this deadly disease. It was a great day to see this bill pass the Florida House State Affairs Committee unanimously.”
