Florida Clean Energy for All, a table working to advance clean energy, delivers letter to Governor Ron DeSantis demanding action on critical environmental issues

Groups launch social media campaign to encourage
meaningful action from DeSantis Administration

Environmental leaders from the Florida Clean Energy For All (CEFA) table delivered an open letter today – on Earth Day – to Governor Ron DeSantis encouraging strong action to advance clean energy in the era of climate change.

Given that Florida is the state most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, the need for immediate action is clear. Yet, the state lags behind in capturing cost-effective energy efficiency and, while solar deployment is beginning, there is much room for improvement in growing solar power in the Sunshine State.

Representatives from these groups spoke to specific, urgent actions on climate change and clean energy that the Governor can implement and they delivered a letter which details those actions to the Governor’s office.

Along with the letter, Florida Clean Energy for All released a video of leaders and others around the state making the case for immediate action. The groups also held a press conference to release the video and letter on the 4th-floor rotunda of the Capitol.

“Climate change is the single biggest threat facing Florida, and Governor DeSantis is the single most powerful voice in Florida government,” said Aliki Moncrief, executive director of Florida Conservation Voters. “Today, we’re calling on him to take immediate and decisive action to accelerate the pace of Florida’s transition to a clean-energy economy. We are running out of time.”

“The threat that climate change poses to Florida’s economic pillars – agriculture and tourism –  is dire,” said Susan Glickman Florida director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy. “On the other hand, advancing clean energy will keep energy dollars in the state, create high-paying local jobs and spur economic development. The choice is clear.”

“Citizens, businesses, nonprofits, and local governments across Florida want more clean, renewable energy,” said Jennifer Rubiello, state director of Environment Florida. “With the stroke of a pen, Governor DeSantis can increase renewable energy use, reduce transportation emissions and curb energy waste. The policies and recommendations outlined in the letter have proven effective and can bring immediate benefits to our health and environment.”

Environment Florida is a statewide, citizen-based environmental advocacy organization working for a cleaner, greener, healthier future.
