Senator Gary Farmer Statement on Excessive Use of Force by Broward County Sheriff’s Deputies

Posted on April 22, 2019

In response to the excessive use of force by Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a fifteen year old, African-American child last Thursday, Senator Gary Farmer (D-Fort Lauderdale) issues the following statement:

“I was sickened upon viewing these videos. This is police brutality, plain and simple. There is no justifiable reason for the excessive use of force and violence inflicted on this child and our community is rightly outraged by the conduct these deputies displayed.

“Incidents like this are a disgrace for the Sheriff’s Department and undermine the ability of law enforcement to properly carry out their job on behalf of the people they serve. The officers should be relieved of their duties immediately and it is my hope that the State Attorney’s investigation that has been launched will ensure justice is served for all those involved.”
