FDLE arrests illegal immigrant for identity fraud

Posted on May 17, 2019

A Margate woman was charged for stealing a family member’s identity in order to live illegally in the United States.

FDLE Miami’s Public Integrity Squad began its investigation in March when allegations arose that a woman, later identified as Marva Gettleman, had fraudulently assumed the identity of her family member for the past five years.

The investigation also found that Gettleman was in the United States illegally and had over stayed her B-2 visa after August 25, 1993, which was the last day she was authorized to legally remain in the country. Gettleman had assumed the victim’s identity and obtained a fraudulent Florida driver’s license, and other various certificates and identifications all in an effort to conceal her identity.

On April 18, 2019, Gettleman was located by FDLE agents along with U.S. Department of Homeland Security, taken into custody for her immigration violation and federally detained. Yesterday, Gettleman was charged with one felony count criminal use of personal identification, one felony count of possession of an unlawful issued driver’s license, and one misdemeanor count of giving a false name to law enforcement.

Gettleman is being is being held at the Glades Correctional Institution on an immigration detainer. This case will be prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney for the 17th Judicial Circuit.
