Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB 7065, a bill that addresses the widespread lawsuit abuse related to insurance agreements known as assignment of benefits (AOB).
CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “Florida consumers are the biggest winners with these critical protections. This year, we advocated for Florida homeowners and passed reforms to help stop rampant lawsuit abuse across the state. My fraud detectives, as well as sheriffs, state attorneys and other law enforcement leaders have joined our efforts to create a Fraud Free Florida, and this new law furthers this mission.
“I am proud Governor DeSantis continues to fight for Floridians and, with the signing of this bill, we are empowering families to take back control of their insurance benefits. President Bill Galvano, Speaker Jose Oliva, Senator Doug Broxson, Representative Bob Rommel, and Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier stood up for homeowners, and I thank each of them for their leadership on this issue. This legislation was long overdue, and I am proud to have championed this measure.
Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier said, “Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis has been an absolute advocate for consumer protection for our state. This new bill will bring relief to Florida homeowners.”
Senator Doug Broxson said, “I was honored to work with Governor DeSantis, CFO Patronis, and many others to put an end to AOB abuse. This bill was a huge win for Floridians, allowing families to regain control of their insurance benefits.”
Representative Bob Rommel said, “I am beyond thankful for the hard work of CFO Patronis this past legislative session with reforming AOB. With his help, Florida can now put an end to this abuse and put power back into consumers hands.”
