Governor Ron DeSantis today gave an update on the progress of the development of Florida’s threat assessment strategy, delivering opening remarks to begin a two-day meeting hosted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Commissioner Rick Swearingen.
“In Florida, we must do everything we can to protect our citizens and visitors from senseless acts of targeted violence,” said Governor DeSantis. “FDLE is making tremendous progress on the development of Florida’s comprehensive threat assessment strategy. Together, we will ensure that Florida is a national leader in intelligence-led policing.”
“I thank Governor DeSantis for his commitment to threat assessment,” said FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen. “The development of this statewide strategy will help ensure the safety and security of Florida citizens and visitors for years to come.”
This important meeting brings together law enforcement personnel, internationally recognized threat assessment experts, as well as government representatives and other stakeholders to provide information about their best practices and model policies and procedures in threat identification and assessment.
This meeting was organized following Governor DeSantis’ directive to FDLE Commissioner Swearingen to prioritize the establishment of a statewide threat identification and assessment strategy.
