Terrence Curran Named New Associate Vice President of Enrollment Services

Posted on July 11, 2019

Dr. Terrence Curran has accepted the University of North Florida’s offer to become the new associate vice president of Enrollment Services.

Curran will officially begin the position September 9 and will provide the vision and direction in the area of enrollment management for the achievement of the University’s strategic undergraduate enrollment and student success goals.

“In addition to his years of experience leading a very complex unit, Dr. Curran brings to this position a deep appreciation of the important role Enrollment Services plays in student success and how to establish effective university and community partnerships in order to advance that student success,” said Dr. Simon Rhodes, UNF provost and vice president of Academic Affairs.

Curran is currently the associate provost for Enrollment Management at Western Michigan University (WMU), where he is responsible for providing institutional leadership, guidance and implementation of new initiatives to establish and meet university enrollment goals.

Under his leadership during the last three years, he has raised the size and quality of WMUs freshman and transfer students, with out-of-state enrollment growing by 30% and its freshman to sophomore retention rate rising to 80%.

Curran has helped establish retention and enrollment committees, analyzed and modified financial aid and scholarship awarding practices as well as significantly optimized the potential to achieve success in Western Michigan’s enrollment outcomes. He also implemented AcademicWorks to centralize and improve scholarship awarding practices, plus revised the new student orientation program to increase consistency of targeted messages, improve student engagement and enhance student transition.

In addition to his roles in enrollment management, he’s had extensive career experience in student affairs at three other distinct universities, including University of North Carolina Wilmington, Wake Forest University and Lehigh University.

Curran was recognized with the Institutional Excellence for Students in Transition Award by the National Resource Center for First Year Experience and Students in Transition and the Outstanding Commuter Program (Community Development Assistant Program) by the American College Personnel Association.

He earned his doctorate in foundations of education from Lehigh University and a master’s in human development and counseling as well as a bachelor’s degree in English, both from the University of Rhode Island.

UNF, a nationally ranked university located on an environmentally beautiful campus, offers students who are dedicated to enriching the lives of others the opportunity to build their own futures through a well-rounded education.
