During the Florida Virtual School (FLVS) Board of Trustees’ (State Board of Education’s) meeting, the Board today voted to eliminate $180,000 in contracts for two outside lobbying firms.
Florida Virtual School President and CEO Dr. Louis Algaze said, “As I review FLVS’s operations top to bottom, it is clear that we need a team integrated in our operations to advocate for our students. They will be best served by a team that is intertwined in our operations, in Orlando, and whose sole priority is ensuring FLVS students receive the best instructional experience possible, bar none. It is unnecessary to spend public funds on contract lobbyists.”
Commissioner of Education Richard Corcoran said, “All other state agencies are prohibited by law from using public funds on private contractors for their lobbying efforts. FLVS is a public institution, and should live by the spirit of the same rules. The Board of Directors made the right call in aligning FLVS with all other state agencies in this regard.”
