FAMU Hires Interim VP Finance and Administration/CFO

Posted on July 30, 2019

Florida A&M University (FAMU) President Larry Robinson, Ph.D., announced the appointment of Richard Schweigert as the University’s interim chief financial officer and vice president for Finance and Administration. He is scheduled to begin work at FAMU on August 1.

Prior to accepting the position at FAMU, Schweigert served as CFO and director of Government Relations for the Colorado State University System for 10 years.

President Robinson said Schweigert has the strong financial and administrative background that can benefit FAMU at this crucial time.

“This is another important step forward in the ongoing implementation of our strategic priority to operate first-class business processes,” Robinson said. “With Mr. Schweigert in place, it gives us the opportunity to conduct a thorough search for a permanent CFO. I look forward to having him on board as part of the Senior Leadership Team.”

President Robinson also thanked Associate Vice President for Human Resources Joyce Ingram, who temporarily filled the role of interim vice president for Finance and Administration and chief financial officer (CFO) and Provost Maurice Edington, Ph.D., for their leadership during the transition period.

From 2006 to 2016, Schweigert was a member of the Senior Executive Management Team of the Colorado State University System and had oversight and management of a $1 billion financial system with multiple campuses, foundations and self-created corporations. Prior to accepting the position at FAMU, he worked as a budget specialist for the Colorado State University System and in higher education for 16 years.

As FAMU’s CFO, Schweigert will oversee some of the University’s vital operations, including Information Technology Services, Human Resources, Facilities, Planning and Construction, the Budget and Controller’s Offices and Business and Auxiliary Services.

Schweigert said he is very excited about the opportunity to work with President Robinson, the Senior Leadership Team, faculty and staff at FAMU.

“I’m excited to be coming to FAMU to help the University, as much as I can, to move forward to find the best solutions and pathways for students and staff. I think it’s going to be a wonderful experience,” said Schweigert, who earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Colorado State University.

Among his other roles, Schweigert served as chief executive officer of CSU-Global Campus, an on-line university of the Colorado State University System and for the Colorado Commission on Higher Education from 2003 to 2006. He also held the title of vice president of finance and administration at Mesa State College.

Before that, Schweigert was CFO and president of the Colorado Correctional Industries and worked as the deputy legislative director and senior budget analyst for the Colorado Governor’s Office.
