Items to watch for the upcoming Board of Governors meeting

Posted on August 26, 2019

System Accountability Plan: Board members will hear a presentation on the System Accountability Plan, which compiles university data to analyze systemwide trends and performance. The data is derived from the institutional Accountability Plans presented in June.

Drugs, Alcohol & Mental Health Task Force Report: The Task Force will consider for approval a report of the accomplishments and recommended solutions related to student mental health and student use and abuse of drugs and alcohol.

SUS Textbook Affordability Initiative: Board members will hear an action plan for obtaining letters of commitment at the system level from publishers and campus bookstores so that students may obtain materials at more affordable prices than are currently available. Committee Chair Ed Morton announced in June that he had asked Board staff to develop the plan, which was created collaboratively with a systemwide group.

Exemplary Online Student Recognition: To promote the impact of online education in the State University System and to recognize the accomplishments of individual online students, the Committee will recognize Ms. Kathleen Smith and Ms. Kristina King, both completers of the Master of Public Administration degree through FGCU’s online MPA program.

Legislative Budget Request: The Board will consider its 2020-2021 Operating and Fixed Capital Outlay Legislative Budget Request.

Mathematics Redesign Update: The Board will hear the final update on the State University System and Florida College System Mathematics Redesign effort. The initiative is designed to improve student success in mathematics.

Earn to Learn: Board members will hear from students in the Earn to Learn program, an initiative of the Southwest Florida Women’s Foundation that helps low-to-moderate income students earn a higher education with little or no student debt.

Presidential Reappointments: The Board will consider confirmations for the reappointments of Florida International University President Mark Rosenberg and University of West Florida President Martha Saunders.
