The Fernandez campaign will receive support from Senate Victory
The full seventeen-member Senate Democratic Caucus endorses Representative Javier Fernandez (D-Miami) for Florida State Senate District 39.
“I am proud to have the support of all of my future colleagues in the Senate Democratic Caucus,” stated Representative Javier Fernandez. “Our children need fully funded public schools where they can fulfill their greatest potential, our working families deserve an efficient public transportation system and jobs that provide the dignity of a living wage, and every neighborhood should be able to live freely without the fear of gun violence. I’m running for the State Senate in order to ensure our voices are heard on the frontline of these battles for the people of Florida.”
In addition to the endorsement of the Senate Democratic Caucus, Representative Javier Fernandez’s campaign will receive support from the Florida Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, better known as Senate Victory. Under the direction of Senate Democratic Leader Designate Gary Farmer, Senate Victory is the political and fundraising operation of the Senate Democratic caucus that is dedicated to winning campaigns in Florida.
Reacting to Representative Javier Fernandez’s candidacy, members of the Senate Democratic Caucus offered the following statements:
Senate Democratic Leader Designate Gary Farmer: “It is no secret that District 39 is the top battleground as Senate Democrats continue on the path to the majority in Florida. Javier Fernandez is a proven winner in the rough and tumble world of Miami-Dade politics with a track record of raising the resources necessary to compete in a highly competitive campaign. We are proud to support Javier Fernandez because he represents the values of our caucus and will stand with us as we fight for a brighter future for all Floridians!”
Senate Democratic Leader Audrey Gibson: “With Floridians’ civil rights under attack, we need legislators in the fight for equal protection under the law for all of our citizens. I am proud to support Javier Fernandez in his run for State Senate because he will work every day to ensure that our voting rights are protected and no one in our state faces legal discrimination for their race, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity.”
Senator Oscar Braynon: “Gun violence has taken a horrible toll on too many of our communities and we need more Senators with the backbone to stand up to the NRA. I know Floridians can count on Javier Fernandez to fight every day for commonsense gun safety reforms to keep our neighborhoods safe.”
Senator Annette Taddeo: “South Florida has many challenges and too many are tied to the wrong priorities being advocated by the party in control. It’s time to reverse the trends in Tallahassee and that starts by electing strong leaders like Javier Fernandez. I’m proud to support him and excited to work side by side as we focus on real solutions that improve the quality of lives of South Floridians.”
Senator Victor Torres: “Our sisters and brothers in labor need our support in the struggle to ensure every working Floridian is paid a living wage and is protected from discrimination on the job. Javier Fernandez will always stand with our workers for those protections and for the type of good paying jobs they deserve to provide economic security for themselves and their families.”
Senator Janet Cruz: “Javier Fernandez has distinguished himself as a public servant with his unrelenting support for public education and our students, teachers, and education professionals. As Republicans continue to siphon more taxpayer dollars to corporate schools, it is vital we elect more Senators like Javier Fernandez to stand with our traditional public schools.”
Senator Lauren Book: “Whether it is a woman’s right to choose, President Trump’s attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, or the continued refusal to expand Medicaid, Floridians’ access to healthcare is under attack. Everyone has the right to quality, affordable healthcare and Javier Fernandez will be a powerful proponent for increasing access to all those currently unable to get the care they need when he is in the Florida Senate.”
Senator Jose Javier Rodriguez: “Taking climate change seriously is about protecting our health, the environment, and our economy. Javier Fernandez understands the urgency of the issue and, as a father like me, knows future generations are relying on us. I look forward to working with him on climate in the Senate.”
Senator Jason Pizzo: “Javier Fernandez is my classmate, my colleague, and my friend – I’m delighted he’s running to join the Senate.”
