In addition to top tier ranking, UT highlighted by U.S. News for value, innovation, social mobility and more

Posted on September 10, 2019

The University of Tampa is again ranked by U.S. News & World Report in the top tier in the category Best Regional Universities (South) in its “Best Colleges 2020” guidebook.

The Sykes College of Business was also named as a top undergraduate business program.

Noteworthy this year is that UT was named in five lists, including: 1) Best Value Schools; 2) Most Innovative Colleges; 3) A+ Schools for B Students; 4) Top Performers on Social Mobility; 5) Best Colleges for Veterans; and 6) Best Undergraduate Teaching.

New this year are rankings for social mobility, which recognize how well colleges serve low-income students, and which UT was named a top performer.

In “Best Value Schools” rankings were based on three variables: 1) ratio of quality to price; 2) percentage of all undergraduates receiving need-based aid or grants; and 3) average discount.

Regarding the list “Most Innovative Colleges,” these are colleges and universities that were named by college presidents, provosts and admissions deans that are making the most innovative improvements in terms of curriculum, faculty, students, campus life, technology or facilities.

In the “A+ Schools for B Students” list, schools were ranked on two variables: the school’s “Best Colleges 2020” ranking and the average freshman retention rate.

The “Best Colleges for Veterans” list names schools that offer benefits that can make pursuing a college education more affordable for veterans. These include schools being certified for the GI Bill and schools that participate in the Yellow Ribbon program. UT boasts a generous transfer credit policy for military students, offers up to 100 percent tuition/fees for veterans eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon program and has a VA-certifying official on-site. UT has also regularly been named a military friendly university by Victory Media and Military Advanced Education.

The print edition of the “Best Colleges 2020” guidebook can be pre-ordered or purchased at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and will ship in early October. It will be available in stores on Oct. 15.
