Fall Preview, All Sports Hall of Fame and More
As Florida A&M University (FAMU) prepares for the first home game of the season against Fort Valley State University, there are many other exciting events happening, including a visit from special guest Tom Joyner, host of the Tom Joyner Morning Show.
Below is a list of events happening this week:
Student Government Association Inauguration, all week long, at various locations. This week SGA will officially install officers, and the students have a full week of events planned to celebrate.
100th birthday celebration of Dr. William Foster, Thursday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. at Lee Hall Auditorium. The Foster Foundation and FAMU will pay tribute and celebrate the 100th birthday of Dr. William P. Foster, creator of the incomparable FAMU Marching ‘100’ Band. Dr. Foster’s memorabilia have been selected for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) and the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery (NPG). A representative from the Smithsonian NMAAHC will be present to explain how Dr. Foster’s memorabilia was chosen for the NMAAHC.
President’s Convocation, Friday, Sept. 13 at 10:10 a.m. at Gaither Gym. The President’s Convocation serves as the first official welcome to FAMU. President Larry Robinson, Ph.D. will provide remarks and students will meet University leaders and experience the sounds and sights of all performers, organizations, alumni and other Rattlers.
Sports Hall of Fame, Friday, Sept 13 at 7 p.m. at the Alfred Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center & Teaching Gymnasium. Exceptional FAMU athletes will be honored at the Hall of Fame. Throughout the weekend, various activities are planned for an All-Athletes’ Reunion weekend.
Fall Preview, Saturday, Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. at Lee Hall Auditorium with Tom Joyner providing opening remarks. Joyner will be visiting with Denny’s and the National Council of Negro Women as part of the Hungry for Education Tour of seven Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Fall Preview is an opportunity for prospective students to experience all that FAMU has to offer.
FAMU vs Fort Valley State University, Saturday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. at Bragg Memorial Stadium (first home game of the season)
FAMU and JCPenney Suit-up Event, Sunday, Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at JCPenney, 1500 Apalachee Pkwy. The store will close and students will have the opportunity to purchase Men’s and Women’s Career Apparel for up to 60 percent off of the original price. There will also be mini makeovers by Sephora and free JCP Salon consultations. Also, for students seeking employment, JCPenney is recruiting for local and corporate positions.
