Tallahassee seniors came out and ‘cut a rug’ at the inaugural Hats & Flats Dance on Friday, Sept. 13. The event, sponsored by The Tallahassee Senior Center and Capital Health Plan (CHP) asked attendees to wear their finest, most flamboyant hats and their comfiest, most stylish flats for the event, held at the Tallahassee Senior Center Auditorium. 
There was music was by local, all-female folk band, The Wabi Sabis, lunch catered by Black Fig and fun had by all who attended.
As part of their continued support for Tallahassee seniors, Capital Health Plan (CHP) will soon be offering a modern new option to meet the health care needs of seniors and the Tallahassee community, opening their new Metropolitan Health Center this fall. The facility will be located off Thomasville Rd. near I-10 and will be the first CHP patient care facility to open in over 20 years. The Metropolitan Center will include physician offices, urgent care, imaging, lab services, wound care, and the new Nancy Van Vessem, M.D., Center for Healthy Aging – named for CHP’s former vice president and chief medical officer.
The Center for Healthy Aging will focus on age-friendly care for Medicare members, with an emphasis on the “4Ms”:mentation, medications, mobility and what matters to patients. Additionally, CHP’s Center for Complex Care is relocating to the new location to treat patients with more serious and ongoing medical issues. The focus on healthy aging is needed in the Tallahassee area, where Census figures show the 65+ population is growing rapidly.
