‘Grads Are Back’ Highlights FAMU SJGC Homecoming Activities

Posted on October 2, 2019

Florida A&M University (FAMU) School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (SJGC) will be hosting its annual Homecoming event, “Grads Are Back” featuring alumni in the media and entertainment industries.

Thursday’s proceedings include a full day of panels, workshops and meetings with the SJGC Board of Visitors, which includes Kimberly Godwin, executive vice president of news at CBS News; and Yvette Miley, senior vice president and executive editor at MSNBC.

Stefan K. James, global brand building and marketing innovation expert at PepsiCo, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s “Grads Are Back” Colloquium Thursday at 11 a.m. in Lee Hall Auditorium, and will participate in a Q&A with SJGC Dean Michelle Ferrier, Ph.D.

“Grads Are Back gives ambitious students the opportunity to connect with seasoned media professionals. Alumni also have the opportunity to pass on their knowledge of the industry to students and help prepare them for the work force,” said Professor Francine Huff, SJGC’s Knight Chair for Student Achievement.

Rashan Ali of TV One will host “Unpredictable: The Other Side of Sports, Art, PR & Entertainment” with panelists that include Tiffany Greene of ESPN and Melissa Mitchell of Abeille Creations.

Other speakers include Elise Durham of the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Erica Butler of Booz Allen Hamilton, Caryn Wilson of the New York Times and Jelani Downing of the Atlanta Hawks.

A job fair will take place in the SJGC library from noon to 5 p.m. on Thursday. Recruiting employers include the Florida Channel, Tallahassee Magazine, TEGNA, Edelman, the Children’s Campaign and others.
