The Florida Department of Transportation will be relocating the southbound 95 Express Lane access at Davie Boulevard to just south of Stirling Road. This is part of 95 Express Phase 3C construction and is anticipated for mid to late-October. This relocation is necessary to accommodate highway widening. Upon project completion – currently anticipated in late 2024, the new Express Lanes entrance will be permanently relocated just south of Hollywood Boulevard.
In order to safely accommodate the new geometry of the highway widening, the current access point just south of Stirling Road will also be modified, requiring the removal of the existing ingress point slip ramp and all Express Lane markers from Davie Boulevard to just north of Stirling Road. In the new configuration, the single Express Lane will then open to two Express Lanes south of Stirling Road continuing southbound on I-95.
While the adjacent project to the north, 95 Express Phase 3A-1, is still under construction – the Stirling Road ingress point will be the northernmost entrance point from I-95 southbound. When Phase 3A-1 is completed and in final configuration, there will be two new 95 Express southbound ingress points located at Oakland Park Boulevard and the Broward Park and Ride. Upon the completion of 95 Express Phase 3C, there will be an additional southbound 95 Express ingress point accessible via the I-595 direct connects.
The scope of work for this project includes: reconstruction, milling, resurfacing, overbuild, widening, and restriping of I-95 from south of Hollywood Boulevard to south of Broward Boulevard to accommodate one additional Express Lane in each direction; a new southbound Express Lanes entrance and a northbound Express Lanes exit location, serving Sheridan Street and interchanges to the north; dual right turn lane improvements at the ramp terminal for the I-95 northbound exit ramp movement to eastbound Griffin Road; I-95/I-595 Direct Connectors between northbound and southbound 95 Express Lanes and I-595; I-95/SR 84 Interchange modifications, including replacement of the westbound SR 84 bridge over I-95, and the reconstruction, milling, resurfacing, widening, and/or restriping of I-595 from SR-7 to I-95, including: the I-595 bridges over Pond Apple Slough; a new westbound I-595 exit ramp to Florida’s Turnpike; a new eastbound I-595 entrance ramp from Florida’s Turnpike, and a new eastbound I-595 exit ramp to eastbound SR-84. Other work includes bridge widening, bridge painting, ITS, /gantries, signage, ramp signalization, lighting, drainage, shoulder mounted sound walls, and retaining walls.
Specific dates in the construction schedule will be released to the public as they become available. Currently, Variable Message Boards are announcing the planned relocation of the I-95 southbound Express Lane entrance at Davie Boulevard and the reconfigured entrance at Stirling Road.
Overhead Dynamic Message Signs will advise motorists of planned lane closures in advance, and the Florida Highway Patrol will assist motorists as necessary.
