On the one year anniversary of Hurricane Michael’s landfall in Florida, Commissioner Nicole “Nikki” Fried today visited Mexico Beach to support local residents and businesses in their recovery.
Fried met with owners and employees of Mexico Beach Marina, Caribbean Coffee, Mango Marley’s, Ace Hardware, and the Killer Seafood food truck. She also met with Mexico Beach Mayor Al Cathey and with Kim Barber, a Jackson County landowner whose timber crop was destroyed by the storm, one of the most powerful to ever strike North America. Fried started the day with a video highlighting the region’s dedication to #RebuildingWithLove.
“This community is incredibly resilient. Everyone we’ve talked with here today has a simple message to share – we’re open for business,” said Commissioner Fried. “Mexico Beach and Panhandle residents have a soul that couldn’t be devastated by Hurricane Michael. We’re here to remind them that they’re not forgotten, and we’re committed to continue helping them recover, replant, and rebuild.”
