Posted on October 16, 2019

Senate President Bill Galvano (R-Bradenton) today announced the appointment of Dr. Macarena de la Fuente to the Florida Center for Brain Tumor Research Scientific Advisory Council.

“Dr. de la Fuente is a well-respected physician and clinical researcher who specializes in Neuro-Oncology, specifically addressing primary brain tumors in adults,” said President Galvano. “I’m grateful that a physician of her caliber has agreed to represent the Senate in this capacity, and am certain the advisory council will benefit from her knowledge and expertise in this challenging field of medicine.”

Dr. de la Fuente is an assistant professor and Chief (interim) of the Neuro-Oncology Division at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center of the University of Miami Health System. Dr. de la Fuente’s research focuses on translational research as well as the development of clinical trials for primary brain tumors, particularly, low-grade glioma and glioblastoma. She is currently leading collaborative, multicenter, national and international trials for primary brain tumors. In addition to the development of clinical trials, her research interest focuses on IDH-mutant glioma, specifically investigating radiographic biomarkers for these tumors.
