Tech tutorial designed for beginners, experts in high school, college
Advancements in computer programming and software have made building websites easier. The technological tools are also providing all experience levels with a chance to create the future.
Stetson HackerSpace, the university’s computer science club, will be providing high school and Stetson University students with an opportunity to participate in its free Build and Deploy Your First Website workshop on Thursday, Oct. 24, 6-8 p.m., at the Lynn Business Center, 345 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand, 32723, in computer lab room 317.
Attendees will learn the structure and syntax of basic HTML and CSS during this beginner-friendly introduction to website development. They also will receive a skeleton of a portfolio website and will update the HTML to include information about themselves and edit the CSS to style and position elements on their page. The final step will be deploying their website.
“If you’re curious about how websites are created, then this workshop will not only answer your questions, but provide the basics for you to take your newly-found website development skills to the next level,” said workshop organizer and math and computer science senior Heyley Gatewood.
Being tech-savvy is essential for a computer science career.
“As a computer scientist, it is imperative that you develop a wide-ranging skill set,” said Gatewood. “Having artificial intelligence and game, software and website development experience will help you land the computer science job of your dreams.”
Participants can pre-register for the workshop by emailing [email protected]. Students can also register at the Lynn Business Center on the day of the workshop, but only if space is still available.
HackerSpace’s workshops lead up to its annual spring hackathon, the Greater Central Florida Tech Faire + HatterHacks, a three-day event in which universities and high schools throughout the state gather on campus to participate in technology workshops, app-building competitions, networking with big-name tech companies and other activities. This event will be held Feb. 21-23, 2020 at the Carlton Union Building, 131 E. Minnesota Ave., DeLand, 32723. Additional details will be released soon.
