Flagler College Day of Service to take place Oct. 26

Posted on October 21, 2019

More than 200 Flagler College students, faculty, staff and alumni will be spread out across St. Augustine on Saturday, Oct. 26 for a day of community service. So far, 14 local nonprofit organizations will benefit from volunteer services performed which will range from assistance with wildlife rescue to the organization Council on Aging. This is the fourth year of the Day of Service event hosted by Flagler students.

Called Reach Out Raise Up, the service day is planned and organized by a student-led organization at Flagler called the FC Volunteers.

Day of Service student coordinator Sam Morrison said, “Because many Flagler College students are from out-of-state, this event encourages them to make an impact in their new community.”

The event takes place twice per year and FC Volunteers is always seeking more organizations with which to partner. Interested organizations should reach out to Morrison at [email protected].

Organizations taking part in the service event this year include St. Augustine Center for Living, St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum, St. Augustine Youth Services, Flagler Humane Society, Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, Ayla’s Acres, SAFE Pet Rescue Thrift Store, SAFE Pet Rescue Shelter, Alpha Omega Thrift Store, Betty Griffin Center, HAWKE Wildlife Rescue, Home Again St. Johns, Council on Aging, and St. Johns County Parks and Recreation.

“We hope that this event inspires students to continue working with local nonprofits to build a stronger relationship with the St. Augustine community,” said Morrison.

About Flagler College
Flagler College is a small private, independent college located in St. Augustine, Fla. The college offers 34 majors, 41 minors, and a master’s degree in Education of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. Flagler College has an enrollment of about 2,500 students, as well as an offsite campus in Tallahassee, Fla. U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review regularly feature Flagler as a college that offers quality education at a relatively low cost. A Flagler education is less than half the cost of similar private colleges, and competitive with many state universities. A relatively young institution (founded in 1968), Flagler College is also noted for its historic beauty. The centerpiece of the campus is the former Hotel Ponce de Leon, a National Historic Landmark opened in 1888 by railroad pioneer and Standard Oil co-founder Henry M. Flagler.
