Items to watch for the upcoming Board of Governors’ meeting

Strategic Plan Update: The Board will consider approval of 2019 updates to its 2025 Strategic Plan. The recommended updates, which are the result of a year-long review process, include new measures to ensure the quality of online courses, new metrics around the employment of bachelor’s degree graduates, and new metrics around graduation rates for students who transfer from the Florida College System with an Associate of Arts degree.

Accountability Plan: The Board will consider approval of its 2019 System Accountability Plan, which compiles data from all 12 institutions to track the System’s progress toward the goals in the Board’s 2025 Strategic Plan.

Legislative Budget Request: The Board will consider amendments to its 2020-2021 legislative budget request, including for university Pillars of Excellence. The concept includes Performance-Based Funding, Preeminence Funding, and Universities of Distinction.

Facilities: The Board will also consider for approval an amended 2020-2021 Fixed Capital Outlay legislative budget request, including approval of its priority capital projects. This was determined based on the new points system, as required by SB 190.

Trustee Vacancies: The Board will consider candidates to fill trustee vacancies at all 12 State University System institutions.

Election of Board Officers: The Board will select its new chair and vice chair for terms beginning January 1, 2020 and ending December 31, 2021.

Presidential Confirmation: The Board will consider the confirmation of University of Florida President Kent Fuchs.

Career Services and Student Success: The Board will hear a presentation on how the State University System Career Centers impact student success and hear from a panel of career center directors.

The Board of Governors’ meeting will be held at the University of Florida in Gainesville, with committee meetings scheduled to begin October 30 at 8:30 a.m. The full Board meeting is scheduled to begin on October 30 at 4 p.m. Meeting times are subject to change.
