A resolution proposed by Senator José Javier Rodríguez (D-Miami) that condemns the oppression of the Nicaraguan people at the hands of dictator Daniel Ortega passed its first committee in the Florida Senate. The resolution, #SR 546 condemns the leader of Nicaragua for the atrocities committed against his own people, passed the Judiciary Committee unanimously.
“Daniel Ortega has manipulated election laws, used the national police to eliminate checks and balances in Nicaragua’s government, co-opted the National Assembly and the Supreme Court, severely limited freedom of expression, and used force to silence opposition leaders and critics,” says Senator José Javier Rodríguez. “I thank my colleagues for standing together unanimously in favor of human rights, of democracy and of the Nicaraguan people.”
