The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) invites all interested persons to a public hearing regarding proposed safety improvements on S.R. 44 at the intersections of Eddie Road and Ingham Roads. The hearing will begin as an informational open house at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Alonzo “Babe” James Community Center located at 201 North Myrtle Avenue in New Smyrna Beach.

Proposed improvements at the intersection of S.R. 44 and Eddie Road consist of installing a flashing yellow arrow signal for the eastbound left-turn lane on S.R. 44, implementing a green left arrow for the eastbound and westbound left-turn movements from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and closing the current median opening at Fran Drive to extend the eastbound left-turn lane at Eddie Road and the westbound left-turn lane at Ellison Avenue.

Proposed improvements at the intersection of S.R. 44 and Ingham Road consist of converting the existing median opening to a directional median opening, which would eliminate left turns onto S.R. 44 from Ingham Road, closing the current median opening at King Street to the west of Ingham Road and upgrading existing signing and pavement markings.

Attendees can view displays and other project information during the open house portion beginning at 5 p.m. Staff also will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. A presentation will then begin at 6 p.m., followed by public comments.

Persons with disabilities who require accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act, or persons who require translation services (free of charge), should contact Erin Kleinfelt, Community Outreach Specialist, by phone at 407-764-0006, or via email at [email protected] at least seven (7) days prior to the meeting. If you are hearing or speech impaired, please contact us by using the Florida Relay Service, 1-800-955-8771 (TDD) or 1-800-955-8770 (Voice).

Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability or family status. Persons wishing to express their concerns relative to FDOT compliance with Title VI may do so by contacting Jennifer Smith, FDOT District Five Title VI Coordinator, at [email protected].

Media inquiries should be directed to the FDOT Communications Office at [email protected] or by phone at 386-943-5593. Project information is also available online at CFLRoads.com.

FDOT urges all drivers to stay alert and use caution while driving through or near construction zones. When driving, walking, or bicycling, remember to pay attention and follow the rules. Safety doesn’t happen by accident.
