Senator Gary Farmer re-affirms commitment to affordable housing in Broward
The Broward Legislative Delegation today met with Chief Judge Jack Tuter and Judge Kenneth Gottlieb to discuss ongoing programs and fiscal needs for the 17th Judicial Circuit. Chief Judge Tuter highlighted the successes of the new Community Court system, which diverts offenders with low-level crimes from the County Jail. Senator Farmer had the following to say:
“The Community Court developed in coordination with County, Municipal, Police, and Judicial officials is a prime example of government working at it best. With this program our local governments can significantly improve the lives of so many people trapped in a cycle of repeat arrest and conviction.”
Officials at the meeting also repeated the need for additional affordable housing stock in Broward County. Senator Farmer re-affirmed his commitment to continue fighting to keep affordable housing dollars in the Sadowsky Affordable Housing Trust fund, in addition to supporting a local bill that would create a Broward County affordable trust fund.
