Mast, Zeldin Lead Bipartisan Group Urging the UN to Combat Anti-Semitism

Posted on January 27, 2020

U.S. Congressmen Brian Mast (FL-18) and Lee Zeldin (NY-01) today, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, urged Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres to implement report recommendations to combat anti-Semitism around the world. In a UN report published last year, it was found that most countries in the world have inadequate methods for monitoring hate crimes. The report also acknowledges that the objectives, activities and effects of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement are fundamentally anti-Semitic.

“It is absolutely critical that we remind ourselves every day – especially today on International Holocaust Remembrance Day – that anti-Semitism has no place here in the United States or anywhere around the world.” Rep. Mast said. “We must work together to reject the hatred of the BDS movement and those who support it.”

Recommendations in last year’s report included the appointment of a senior-level leader in the Executive Office of the Secretary General tasked with engaging with Jewish communities worldwide, monitoring anti-Semitism and overseeing the response of the United Nations. Mast and Zeldin were joined by 106 bipartisan Members of Congress, including Democrat co-leads Reps. David Cicilline (RI-01) and Brad Sherman (CA-30).
