First Lady Casey DeSantis Announces Daniel Wynn as Florida’s Featured Artist for Black History Month

Posted on February 5, 2020

First Lady Casey DeSantis today announced Jacksonville native Daniel Wynn as Florida’s Featured Artist for Black History Month. A U.S. Air Force veteran and celebrated artist, Daniel will have his work displayed in the Governor’s Mansion for visitors to enjoy.

“Art has the ability to build, enhance, enrich, and revitalize communities and neighborhoods. It is used as a medium to preserve and share the stories of cultures, people and societies,” said First Lady Casey DeSantis. “I am honored to select Daniel Wynn as the 2020 Featured Artist for Florida’s Black History Month. Mr. Wynn’s ability to use art as a platform to build and preserve these cultural bridges has been recognized globally and in his home city of Jacksonville.”

About Daniel Wynn
Daniel Wynn is a highly accomplished artist, designer and international exhibitor who works in acrylic painting, oil pastel, drawing and sculpture. He also promotes numerous community art programs and learning opportunities for children, teenagers and adult minority artists.

While Modernism and Cubism strongly influence his paintings and illustrations, Daniel sees the expression of spiritualism in his work as deriving from African and Oriental art. He states, “I think of art as a way of life in which man expresses his thoughts, feelings and emotions. It’s a universal language that can be understood by the masses and is a way to bring about positive change and bring out the beauty of life. I hope my work expresses the spirit of man and allows me to be a recorder of history.”

Daniel returned to his community after having lived in Washington D.C. for over 30 years and having his artwork shown worldwide. His home and studio are in Jacksonville’s historic Springfield neighborhood.

In 1997, Mr. Wynn founded the nonprofit organization, City Kids Art Factory, to provide a safe and positive environment for children and teenagers to study and practice art. Soon after, he and several colleagues started the Jacksonville Consortium of African-American Artists to promote the history of African art and culture citywide.
