With the number of Covid-19 infections surging and testing data still lagging, state Senator Annette Taddeo (D-40) continues to call on Governor Ron DeSantis to close non-essential businesses and issue a stay home order to protect the people of Florida.
“This disease shows no mercy,” said Senator Taddeo. “The only effective way to halt its infection rate is to eliminate its transmission. Closing non-essential businesses and issuing a stay-at-home order will bring us out of this crisis faster, and save lives in the process.”
Senator Taddeo’s call to the Governor is not new as she has been asking DeSantis to “shutdown” the state since last week on social media.
Thus far, the governor has chosen to take a piecemeal approach, leaving vulnerable large swaths of Florida’s population to the spread of the disease as seemingly healthy individuals who may be unaware they are even carrying the virus continue to move freely about the state.
In spite of limited testing, Miami-Dade County has seen one of the highest infection rates in Florida, which is expected to continue to rise. As of Monday evening, 278 residents have been confirmed with the virus.
