Florida Governor Extends Department of Revenue Property Tax Payment Due Date from March 31 to April 15

Posted on March 26, 2020

Florida State Representative Chip LaMarca (R – Lighthouse Point) released the following statement regarding Governor Ron DeSantis most recent executive orders regarding property tax and sales tax extensions with Order of Emergency Waiver/Deviation #20-52-DOR-01 and #20-52-DOR-002.

Order of Emergency Waiver/Deviation #20-52-DOR-01 applies to all 67 Florida counties. Property tax is normally due by March 31 in the year following the year the taxes are assessed. The Department waives the due date so that payments remitted by April 15, 2020, for the 2019 tax year will be considered timely paid. Property tax returns for railroad, railroad terminal, private car and freight line and equipment company property are normally due by April 1. Returns will be timely filed if filed by April 15, 2020.

“I have been in constant communication with the Governor’s Office on this topic for the last week and they have been working tirelessly with the Department of Revenue to create a solution for working families.

By working together every day on solutions for Florida families the Governor has again shown great leadership and a willingness to listen. By giving families some relief so they do not have to decide between paying their property taxes and putting food on the table while benefits are being processed during this difficult time.

My promise to the residents of Florida, Broward County, and House District 93 is that I will continue to work on their behalf. Now is not the time to play partisan politics, or use a crisis to score political points and headlines. Now is the time to act like public servants and work together for the people we all serve.”
