UT College of Natural and Health Sciences Donates PPE to TGH, County

Posted on March 30, 2020

Several departments within The University of Tampa’s College of Natural and Health Sciences (CNHS) have donated excess personal protective equipment (PPE) — normally for student and faculty use in clinical and scientific teaching labs — to Tampa General Hospital (TGH).

The departments — including nursing, physician assistant medicine, biology, chemistry, and health sciences and human performance — donated surgical masks, isolation gowns, N95 masks, gloves and other items that can be used by health care workers caring for patients with COVID-19.

The Department of Nursing organized the donation and delivered it to TGH.

UT’s Department of Art in the College of Arts and Letters also donated masks.

A second donation of exam gloves is being organized by UT’s Department of Biology, which is planning to donate them to Hillsborough County for distribution to area hospitals, nursing facilities and other places. All of the CNHS departments that use exam gloves are donating them.

“The CNHS faculty and staff have appreciated the opportunity to do something directly related to tackling the pandemic,” said Paul Greenwood, dean of CNHS.

*Editor’s Note: Paul Greenwood, dean of the College of Natural and Health Sciences, would be happy to discuss this donation via Zoom. Please contact [email protected] for Greenwood’s contact information.

The University of Tampa is a private, comprehensive university located on 110 acres on the riverfront in downtown Tampa. Known for academic excellence, personal attention and real-world experience in its undergraduate and graduate programs, the University serves approximately 10,000 students from 50 states and about 130 countries.
