In response to the United States Senate passing additional funding for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program, U.S. Congressman Brian Mast (FL-18) called on Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA-12) to immediately vote on the bill. She has previously advised that the House of Representatives will not vote until Thursday morning at the earliest.
“Now that the Senate has passed this bill, why would the House of Representatives wait until Thursday? How many jobs will be lost while we wait? How many businesses will be forced to close,” Rep. Mast asked. “This is exactly why all 435 Members of the House of Representatives should be at the Capitol working around the clock on this instead of waiting to be summoned. Speaker Pelosi needs to call a vote now because waiting until Thursday will cause severe and unnecessary damage to countless additional lives.”

BACKGROUND
Rep. Mast has led an effort among House Republicans to get Speaker Pelosi and House of Representatives leadership to understand the urgency of the moment. He returned to Washington, D.C. on Monday with a group of colleagues who are ready to work even if Speaker Pelosi is not. He attempted to be recognized on the House Floor this morning to push the process forward, but Democrats refused to recognize him and instead adjourned the House of Representatives without voting on additional funding for the Paycheck Protection Program. Video from the House Floor is available here.
