In recognition of his strong track record of support for policies that protect and preserve Florida’s natural environment, Senator Jose Javier Rodriguez (D-Miami) has received the endorsement of Florida Conservation Voters, Sierra Club Florida, and the Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida. After three years of wearing rain boots marked with the message “#ActOnClimateFL” during his legislative work at the Capitol to draw attention to the climate crisis, this year Senator Rodriguez authored and, with his House sponsor and a strong coalition, passed the most substantive climate change legislation yet passed in Florida, a major victory for the environmental movement in Florida– Public Financing of Construction Projects (HB 579).
“Preparing and protecting Floridians from the threat of man-made climate change, tackling the causes of the climate crisis by promoting clean energy and protecting our water resources and sensitive environmental areas are vital to the future of Florida,” stated Senator Jose Javier Rodriguez. “Throughout my time in office, I have worked extensively on solutions to these pressing issues, especially for the people of Miami-Dade who are uniquely at risk from sea level rise. I am proud to stand with Florida Conservation, Sierra Club Florida, and the Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida as we work together to ensure a bright future for generations of Floridians to come.”
Florida Conservation Voters is one of the leading non-partisan voices in the state for environmental and conservation issues. They seek to educate, elect, and hold accountable elected officials for their environmental and conservation votes.
“No one has done more to protect Florida’s environment than Senator Jose Javier Rodriguez, especially as it relates to solving the climate crisis,” declared Jonathan Webber, Deputy Director of Florida Conservation Voters. “Senator Rodriguez’s leadership in the Florida Legislature has been invaluable to protecting the places that Florida’s families cherish most: our beaches, neighborhood parks, and signature ecosystems like the Everglades. That’s why FCV is excited to endorse Senator Rodriguez, and we look forward to working with him as we ensure he is re-elected in District 37.”
Sierra Club Florida is a chapter of the national Sierra Club and is made up of over 32,000 members throughout the state. Their mission is to enjoy, explore and protect the natural places in Florida, to teach others to understand and respect the fragile environment in which we live, and to practice and promote the responsible use of Florida’s ecosystems and resources.
“Protecting our environment means taking seriously the challenges our state is facing,” proclaimed Sierra Club Florida Political Chair David Harbeitner. “Senator Jose Javier Rodriguez is a preeminent voice for ensuring Florida is prepared for the future and we enthusiastically endorse continuing to have his leadership in the Florida Senate.”
The Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida (DECF) strives to support Florida lawmakers, candidates, legislation and businesses that preserve, protect and enhance Florida’s natural resources. They work to ensure responsible environmental stewardship is a leading policy for elected officials.
“Miami Dade County’s future hinges upon an effective response to the climate crisis,” said Miami-Dade Environmental Caucus Chair Zac Cosner. “Senator Jose Javier Rodriguez has displayed unparalleled understanding, conviction, and leadership in standing up for citizens across the state who want to build a prosperous future here. We can count on him to put the people of Florida first, and display the leadership necessary to overcome the challenges we face.
