FAMU Bragg Memorial Stadium Testing Site Extends Operations to June 1

Posted on May 19, 2020

The Florida A&M University-Bond Community Health Center COVID-19 Testing Site will continue operation until at least June 1.

“This decision to extend the testing site is informed by continued interest and need, particularly as the state engages in a re-opening process,” said Cynthia Harris, Ph.D., director of the FAMU Institute of Public Health and one of the organizers of the site.

The latest extension means the Bragg Memorial Stadium location, which was initially opened for two weeks on April 25, will be in operation for at least five weeks. During that time, operators extended the testing capacity from 200 to 400 tests daily. More than 6,000 individuals have been tested.

The walk-up site is open daily, including weekends and Memorial Day, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Tests are free, and no physician referral is required. The site is open to anyone who wants to be tested – symptomatic, asymptomatic and those who want to know their status. Residents can also schedule an appointment by calling the Leon County Health Department at 850-404-6399.

In consideration of the additional turn-around time needed to process tests, those who have not received their results within seven business days should call (850) 264-2082.

The FAMU-Bond Strike COVID-19 Testing Team has also increased the number of staff to support the greater demand. The Leon County Health Department is investigating all positive cases and conducting contact tracing.

“We are trying to reach as many residents as possible,” said Dr. Temple Robinson, MD, CEO of Bond Community Health Center, one of the partners operating the site. “We are trying to give an opportunity to as many residents as possible to be tested.”
