Alexandria Suarez, Monroe County Assistant State Attorney and candidate for the Florida House, District 120, today released the following statement regarding news reports that candidate Rhonda Rebman-Lopez is being advised and funded by a consultant linked to Nicolas Maduro’s Venezuelan dictatorship:
“Over the weekend, news reports indicated that former Miami Congressman David Rivera and his company, Interamerican Consulting, had brokered a consulting deal with Nicolas Maduro’s Venezuelan dictatorship and may be under FBI investigation for his dealings with Nicolas Maduro’s criminal regime.”
“The regime agreed to pay $50 Million in exchange for leading a public relations campaign on their behalf in the United States. The Maduro Regime – a beachhead for Castro-style communism in Latin America, financial supporter of terrorist cells, and charged drug traffickers, are sworn enemies of the United States and our President, Donald J. Trump. Because of Maduro’s crimes against his own people and support for terrorism, President Trump and most of the allied free world nations have recognized Juan Guaido as the rightful President of Venezuela.
“According to a news report from Florida Politics on October 29, 2019, it was reported that the same former Congressman who engaged in this business deal is an adviser for candidate Rhonda Rebman-Lopez and has helped her raise money in Tallahassee. His firm, Interamerican Consulting, has contributed to Rebman-Lopez’s State House District 120 campaign this election cycle.
“Anyone’s willingness to do business with Maduro’s state-run companies is deeply troubling. Rebman-Lopez’s choice to accept and defend her decision to keep socialist-tainted campaign funds received from her political adviser’s accused firm, as a Republican candidate in District 120, is a betrayal to every person that supports President Trump’s policies against socialism.
“At first, I and many others gave Rebman-Lopez the benefit of the doubt because no candidate can be responsible for everyone who donates to them, but instead of doing the right thing and returning any socialist-linked contribution as pledged by the rest of the candidates who received tainted money, Rebman-Lopez has reaffirmed her commitment to keep the Maduro regime linked campaign funds without remorse or regret. This represents a significant lack of judgment and points to the character of Rebman-Lopez, who has previously run for State Representative in 2018 at her longtime Miami-Dade County home, but was defeated when she placed third in the Republican Primary.
“Rebman-Lopez’s actions are in direct opposition to Republican values, President Trump, and the security of the United States. Rebman-Lopez turned her back on all Republican voters who back President Trump and his policies against socialism and communism.
“Under the circumstances, I have no choice but to call on Rebman-Lopez to resign as a candidate for House District 120 immediately. Any tainted monies whatsoever received by Rebman-Lopez should be donated to the Independent Venezuelan-American Citizens Foundation, and the remaining balance of her donations should be returned to her respective donors.
The Florida Legislature is no place for candidate Rebman-Lopez, who has endorsed and joined forces with those working for Nicolas Maduro’s socialist regime and whose actions are clearly against the security interests of the United States as well as the citizens of Florida.”
