Yesterday Black America was once again brought to its knees as we witnessed the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis Police and the deplorable actions of Amy Cooper, who called the police on a black man who asked her to simply follow park rules and leash her dog. We are still reeling from the murders of Ahmaud Arbury, Breonna Taylor and countless others who have been victimized by the notion that having black skin is an inherently dangerous weapon.
The Florida Legislative Black Caucus leans upon the words of The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. in his dream and hope that one day our children will be judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. We stand firmly against racism in any form and call on our colleagues, friends and allies to stand with us in solidarity against the injustices we continue to see.
