Florida Senate Democratic Caucus statement against national call for more violence

Posted on June 1, 2020

Members of the Florida Senate Democratic Caucus on Monday responded to the national call for more violence in response to widespread protests with the following statement, signed by each Democratic Senator:

“Our caucus grieves for the devaluing of individuals of any race, or ethnicity. We denounce the aberrant behavior that we have all witnessed on video.

“The murder of George Floyd by a police officer while three others looked on fanned the flames of outrage growing within the American people, who are tired of racism and unequal justice.

“Recent occurrences we have witnessed across the country that have resulted in the deaths of largely African Americans, are beyond troubling and demand that we collectively, immediately, and continually focus on solutions for equal justice both in the Legislature and in our communities.

“We call on all Floridians to build the bridges necessary to begin the discussion, to confront the facts and truth of the scourge of racism, and work toward equality and justice for all.

“A national call to violence is never the answer.”
