Amidst COVID-19, UT Community Steps Up for Student Scholarships

Posted on June 3, 2020

University of Tampa alumni, parents, faculty, staff, volunteer boards and friends contributed $263,373 last week during the annual UT Give Day. This year, anticipating an increased need for student financial assistance, the donations will help fund student scholarships.

Despite being a virtual event, the donations broke all previous Give Day records, and ended with a 42% increase over last year. Gifts came locally, nationally and globally.

“UT is dedicated and committed to serving the students, and that is why this year we focused on student scholarship,” said Keith Todd, vice president of development and university relations. “UT understands the impact of the coronavirus will be felt by many, including our students and their families.”

Held annually, UT Give Day seeks to rally the UT extended community around the University and share why it’s important. This year, the event was originally planned for the end of April, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was reimagined and included a full day of online gatherings hosted by several campus leaders, alumni and Board of Trustees members. These interactive events touched on all aspects of the University — from commencement to athletics to University updates — and focused on student scholarships.

Known for academic excellence, personal attention and real-world experience in its undergraduate and graduate programs, the University serves approximately 10,000 students from 50 states and about 130 countries.
