“Wash, rinse, and repeat. Everything we heard today is more of the same, and a refusal to admit that the virus is winning this war in Florida, not the governor.
“Everything we heard today is reactive. Minimizing the disease’s threat by heralding the news that it’s mostly younger people testing positive is not reassuring; it means that COVID-19 is impacting the bulk of our workforce, many of whom may suffer lingering damage, to say nothing of the medical bills they may face.
“There is no effective plan in place to halt the spread, like other states have effectively deployed. Governor DeSantis refuses to consider the recommendations we made based on those successes: mandatory face coverings, instituting safety regulations in the workplace, paying the newly filed and outstanding unemployment claims while the economy struggles to recover, and bringing down the numbers for at least 14 consecutive days – as the CDC has recommended – before attempting to move to any phase of reopening.
“Something has to change. As we see with each passing day and each new batch of positive test numbers posted, the governor’s approach guarantees more victims, but little else.”
