SEIU 1991 Launches Statewide Campaign Urging
Public to Wear a Mask to Curb the Spread of Coronavirus
SEIU Local 1991 President Martha Baker and healthcare professionals today hosted a press conference demanding Gov. Ron DeSantis issue a statewide mask mandate. The nurses and doctors of SEIU 1991 also launched a public awareness campaign to urge Miami-Dade residents and all Floridians to wear masks.
“We’re asking for Governor DeSantis to become the leader we need him to be, and have a plan to battle COVID-19 and win, for the sake of our caregivers and everyone in our community,” said Martha Baker, RN, President of SEIU 1991. “We need people to believe in the science and follow through on the strategies that will dampen the rise in coronavirus cases.”
“We are really asking for this to stop being so political and listen to the science,” said Maria Sulayman, RN, an ICU nurse at Jackson Memorial Hospital and SEIU 1991 member. “Something as simple as wearing a little mask can help so much, and also stay at home as much as possible, social distance, and wash your hands. Do what you can to protect your health and your nurses and doctors.”
Videos on the SEIU 1991 Healthcare Heroes Facebook page have been viewed by over 2 million Miami residents with over 13 million impressions in the last month, and we will continue doing everything we can to highlight the importance of masks to the community.
