Roundabout Will Help Improve Traffic Operations and Enhance Safety in the Area
Improved traffic operations and enhanced safety are the goals of a proposed Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project to replace the existing traffic signal on State Road (S.R.) 44 and Kepler Road in DeLand with a roundabout. The FDOT will introduce the proposed design to the community during a virtual public meeting (VPM) on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at 5:30 p.m. A public hearing will also be held later in the design process.
The purpose of the project is to produce better operational and safety performance than the existing traffic signal can provide. The project also includes pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, nighttime lighting at the intersection, and landscaping in the center island of the roundabout. The project is not yet funded for right of way or construction. For more information about roundabouts, visit: fdot.tips/roundabout.
A virtual public meeting is a free live presentation or webinar over the internet. Persons wishing to participate in the VPM, are required to register in advance by going to https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/8472826016516089103. The VPM opens at 5:30 p.m., with a formal presentation at 5:45 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer period. The presentation will be repeated at 6:30 p.m. Please provide adequate log-in time to view the presentation in its entirety.
