The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), invites you to join us online or by phone for a virtual public meeting to inform participants about the upcoming interchange improvements at US 27 and SR 60 in Polk County. The virtual public meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18. The project will begin in early September 2020 and includes the replacement of the bridges carrying SR 60 over US 27 and reconstruction of the interchange from a partial cloverleaf design to a Single Point Urban Interchange.
US 27 improvements include the widening of the roadway from four lanes to six 11-foot lanes and paved shoulders with the outside shoulder designated as a buffered bicycle lane, curb and gutter along the inside and outside, closed drainage system, and six-foot sidewalks. SR 60 improvements include the construction of a new bridge over US 27, widening the roadway from four to six 11-foot lanes, installation of a seven-foot bicycle lane, curb and gutter along the inside and outside, closed drainage system, six-foot sidewalks, and construction of an urban frontage road in the southwest quadrant for access to local businesses. Other improvements include the construction of a noise wall along SR 60 from South Miami Street to west of Sharp Street, resurfacing Central Avenue from west of US 27 to Miami Street, installing signals, lighting, signage and pavement markings on US 27 and SR 60.
