The Florida A&M University Developmental Research School (FAMU DRS) has opted to amend its start date for the 2020-2021 academic school year from Wednesday, August 19 to Monday, August 31.
Back-to- School Orientation will remain the same, with the elementary school (Grades 1-5) meeting 6 p.m. today Thursday, August 13. The secondary school (Grades 6-12) will meet 6 p.m. Friday, August 14.
Allyson L. Watson, Ph.D., dean of the FAMU College of Education, said, “We are working to provide the safest environment for our teachers and students as we prepare to begin the academic year.”
DRS Superintendent Micheal Johnson said, “I realize back-to-school preparations may already be underway and apologize for any inconvenience this adjustment may cause. However, it is necessary to implement the protocols for the best possible return to school that we can provide.”
This revised start date will ensure that FAMU DRS is well prepared to receive students, accommodate staff and faculty, and continue to adhere to the recommended safety guidelines and procedures as recommended from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Johnson added.
