In response to tonight’s primary victories for Patricia Sigman in Senate District 9, Representative Tina Polsky in Senate District 29, Representative Shevrin Jones in Senate District 35, and Representative Javier Fernandez in Senate District 39, Senate Democratic Leader Designate Gary Farmer issues the following statement:
“Tonight’s results make clear Florida Democrats are fired up and ready to vote blue for strong candidates up and down the ballot.
“Representative Javier Fernandez has been a tireless advocate for South Florida who puts the needs of the people first to help small businesses & workers, fund our public schools, and find real solutions to the climate crisis.
“Patricia Sigman’s career standing up for workers shows that she is the results-oriented leader needed to fully fund our public schools, fix our broken unemployment system, and expand access to healthcare for all Floridians.
“During her time in the House, Representative Tina Polsky has shown her deep commitment to stopping gun violence through common sense reforms, been a champion for environmental preservation and the Everglades, and worked tirelessly to build an economy that allows every Floridian to compete.
“There is no greater champion for his community than Representative Shevrin Jones, who has fought for our public school students and education professionals, to ensure every Floridian has access to healthcare, and to put a stop to senseless gun violence that has claimed too many innocent lives.
“All of these candidates reflect the values of our Democratic caucus and I am excited to have such incredible fighters for Floridians on our ticket. I look forward to welcoming them all to the Florida Senate in November.”
