In response to her victory in the State Senate District 9 primary, Patricia Sigman issues the following statement:
“From day one, our campaign to unite for change has been about putting people first, not the powerful. For too long, decisions affecting working families in our state have been dictated by Tallahassee Republicans beholden to the special interests and insiders who fund their campaigns. That changes now.
“Once I defeat Jason Brodeur this fall, we’re going to expand quality, affordable healthcare to every Floridian, fully fund our public schools, and focus on solutions that help workers as we recover from the pandemic, not the wealthiest and largest corporations. I’ve spent my career fighting for the people of Central Florida and I cannot wait to bring that fight to the Florida Senate!”
Since announcing her campaign for Senate District 9, Patricia Sigman has generated incredible momentum for her campaign with strong and steady fundraising, the endorsement of Senate Democratic Leader Designate Gary Farmer and the support of Senate Victory, as well as Senate Democratic Leader Audrey Gibson, Senators Lauren Book, Oscar Braynon, Janet Cruz, Kevin Rader, Linda Stewart, Annette Taddeo, Perry Thurston, and Victor Torres. Patricia has also been endorsed by former Education Commissioner Betty Castor, former Democratic Lieutenant Governor nominee Chris King, former Congresswoman Gwen Graham, Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy, former Democratic Attorney General nominee Sean Shaw, former Florida CFO Alex Sink, former Orlando Magic Head Coach Stan Van Gundy and his wife Kim, the Florida AFL-CIO, Florida Conservation Voters, Equality Florida Action PAC, EMILY’s List, Ruth’s List Florida, SEIU Florida, and Sierra Club Florida. Additionally, Patricia was endorsed by the Orlando Sentinel for the Democratic Primary and has received the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense candidate distinction.
An open seat due to term limits, State Senate District 9 encompasses all of Seminole County and a portion of western Volusia County. As the fastest changing red-to-blue State Senate district in Florida, Democratic performance increased at the top of the ticket by five points from the 2016 to 2018 election. Senate Victory sees this district as poised to flip and is committed to Patricia’s election in 2020.
